An Australian silver Melbourne gun club presentation, lipped jug, maker's mark H. Young & Comp. Melbourne circa 1880, the tapering cylindrical body finely bright-cut with intertwined fern leaves bearing the inscription 'Melbourne gun club / trophy / Presented by / a Member of the club / Won by / W.D Clarke / 14 July 1883' the reverse engraved with the image of a rifleman taking aim flanked by a loop handle and a pouring spout hallmarked H. Young & Comp. Sterling silver 428grs. Total weight of silver. Height 15 cm. Note: listed in J.B Hawkins' publication Australian silver 1800-1900 Macarthur press Pty Ltd Sydney 1973 item 176 page 117.
