Dowling O'Brien's Bridge Tasmania circa 1853 Of rectangular form the hinged lid centred by a parquetry inlaid star radiating twelve points within a feather banded surround with fan quadrants to the corners the interior fitted with a velvet lined writing surface opening to a storage compartment together with an arrangement of divided storage appertures the whole inlaid with native Australian timbers including musk cedar honeysuckle native cherry and burr oak the secondary timber Huon pine maker's label to the interior inscribed 'R. Dowling / maker / O'Brien's Bridge / V.D.L' (losses to veneer accompanied by loose pieces of veneer and the original key) 50.5 x 17 x 25.5 cm.
