Art Nouveau rimu side table c.1895 This superb side table demonstrates the changing styles and tastes at the end of the nineteenth century in colonial New Zealand. No longer so isolated by distance there was a constant flow of new immigrants, bringing with them new ideas from Europe that were readily adopted. In reaction to many of the more decorative elements previously fashionable, this fine example of Art Nouveau furniture relies solely on excellent quality rimu and stylised incised carving.
