Kauri Hall Stand c.1890 This very handsome colonial interpretation of a more formal English design is made from kauri stained dark to suit the tastes of the time. Strongly influenced by Arts & Crafts and neo Gothic design, this would have been an inexpensive item for a modest settler's cottage. The beautifully turned elements add a degree of contrast to the otherwise very hand worked nature of this utilitarian piece. The angled arms and saw tooth shelf support make for a bold re-interpretation of items illustrated in design books of the period.
