Te Kauwhata wash stand c.1880 raised on porcelain castors and incorporating figured kauri and puriri to good advantage, this wash stand was sourced from an old house in Te Kauwhata (as with Lot 61), the carvings were purchased from a specialized carving workshop, and with the addition of fashionable brass handles and quality timbers and veneers this unsophisticated cabinetmaker's piece successfully epitomizes the world of early New Zealand furniture.
