A Diamond And Cultured Pearl Necklace And Earrings STERLE, Paris the necklace designed as a series of round cultured pearls between cross motifs composed of brilliant-cut diamonds, the matching earrings of hoop design length of necklace approximately 38 cm stamped Sterle, Paris and numbered Pierre Sterle (1905-1978) was introduced to the world of jewellery by his uncle. His aptitude for jewellery design lead him to open his own workshop in the rue Sainte Anne where he designed and manufactured jewellery for some of the leading houses in Paris including Boucheron, Chaumet and Ostertag. Sterle designs epitomised the dynamics of 1950s with its emphasis on movement and energy. In 1976 Sterle closed his business and joined Chaumet where he lent his talent in designing modern pieces in the prevailing style. Provenance: Romayne Munro was born Romayne Hordern in Point Piper, Sydney on 1st November, 1936, the youngest daughter of Anthony and Mary Hordern. Romayne grew up in Point Piper however spent a lot of time at Milton Park, Bowral. She was a boarder at Clyde, which along with The Hermitage and Geelong Church of England Grammar School in 1976 amalgamated to become part of what is now Geelong Grammar. During the years of the Second World War Romayne and the extended family spent much of the time at Milton Park, particularly after the Japanese entered Sydney Harbour. Living with Edwina and her first cousins out of harm's way, she attended Annesley and Tudor House schools. Romayne continued her schooling at Ascham and then Clyde. She 'finished' with a year living in France attending art college in Paris. Romayne met and fell in love with Dugald Munro in her early twenties. They married on 11th June, 1958 at St Mark's in Darling Point with great joy and they built their first home, Ross Farm together near Marulan where they ran sheep and cattle. Their children, Belinda, Emma, Walter & Michael, spent their early years between Ross Farm and Canberra where Dugald spent much time as the Federal Member for Eden Monaro for the Liberal / National Party. Dugald (1966 1969) however was suddenly and tragically killed in an accident on 20th June, 1973. Romayne found that her children gave her the strength to carry on through a difficult time and in later years, her grand children, Sebastian, Lachlan, Maya, Chloe and Isha became the delight of her life. She cherished her family with her own brand of wicked humour and perceptive insight.
