A rare Derby armorial plate from, the Barry-Barry service, circa 1800, finely painted with the Barry family arms encircled by oak leaves reserved on a cobalt ground, gilt with stars and rings within a further wide gilt border of trailing roses Crown, crossed batons, dots and 'D' in gold 24 cm diameter. Catalogue note This plate is probably from the Bemrose sale of the service sold at Nottingham in 1894. According to John Twitchett in his book 'Derby porcelain' the modern consensus is that it dates from about 1800, and that although it is in the manner of Billingsley he is precluded by date. It is possibly the work of John Brewer or Edward Withers. For a similar example see: John Twitchett, Derby porcelain, Balding & Mansell, 1980, illustrated pg 194.
