A Carved Wooden Smoking Set. Meiji period. 19th century. An interesting Japanese tonkotsu with pipe case. The carved wooden case in the form of a grimacing Daruma with inlaid eyes and whisk. His mask face is removable to allow access to the tobacco. The kiseruzutsu (pipe holder) depicts Ashinaga with his outstretched arms holding the bamboo pipe. Brass dragon ends. Height of case 9 cm Ashinaga. 21 cm
