A good large early Meiji period elephant ivory carving of a Samurai warrior in full battle armour, he stands on guard on top of a rocky outcrop holding a yari while his companion looks out below. Both figures and all the details are very well rendered particularly the armour, the Samurai are wearing tachi swords (part missing) denoting high rank. Tokyo school, signed on a red lacquer tablet.
