A Maori Hazard's baby Repeater Winchester model 1906.22 calibre rifle, manufactured 1922, the gun butt Maori carved on both sides with a naturalistic face in profile on the upper edge, one side has a large rauro type spiral below with whakarare pattern above. Other side has weku type face below with whakarare pattern above. Band of spirals with notching carved on underside of butt. This rifle is in working condition. This style of rifle was a favourite for poachers in the late 19th century
