A 19th century carved Taiaha, of dark brown finish with good patination, the shaft of oval section, the distal end flares to a flat paddle shape which has been carved on both sides with h'h' and pakati, whakarare and unaunahi type patterning, the central shaft through to the tongue is uncarved, the tongue is fully carved on both surfaces in rauru type spiral pattern. All eye insets missing including insets to shaft at distal end. Some damage. Length 148 cm
