Ming Guanform jar, an impressive Ming period blue and white guan form baluster jar. Boldly painted in deep inky blue with typical heaped and piled effect and slight blurring of lines. The glaze has a pale celadon tint where thickly applied. The straight neck rim, is decorated with a band of possibly stylized waves breaking on a rocky shore. The shoulders have a wide band of lotus flowers amongst leafy scrolls. The main body decorated with side and top views of peony flowers amongst scrolling foliage and buds. The base band is of pointed lappets with freely painted trefoils beneath a band of pencil scrolling. The base has typical apricot colour to burnt clay with sand adhering to the glaze on foot rim. Period: Ming Dynasty, probably Wanli period in the Yuan style. Wanli: 1573-1619 Yuan: 1239-1368 27x xx 31 cm.
