A Superbly Carved Imposing Hongmu High Square Cabinet, With two doors. Closed in front. Top as li raiseable on brass latches, deeply carved with large medallion housing jade, embossed vertical dragon among clouds and the flaming pearl. Corners filled with jade phoenixes. Edge border of lappets and flames. Doors with medallion divided in two with two embossed, jade confronting dragons in clouds, surrounded by shallow carving of bat and clouds and two brass latches (look beautifully mixed with flora). Sides and back of cabinet also medallion with large frontal horned dragon, horns, five clawed, coiled around flaming pearl and clouds, bats fill corners in jade. The whole on a stand with four clawed feet connected by a frame. Period: mid 19th century 70 x 70 cm
