A Rare Witu Island Ceremonial Mask, of wood, sculpted in helmet form, the opposing faces with pierced eyes and septums, threaded seed glass and wood tassels attached, flanked with stylised openwork ears, below a domed apex inscribed with text, decorated with polychrome pigments, usewear evident, West New Britain, Bismarck Archipelago, 71 x 25 cm. Provenance: From an Australian collection and acquired in the field in the 1980s
