17th/18th century carved Maori fragment of a post, semi circular, red stained wood with middle flattened section plain and two carved figures on either side. Partially rotted with tiki figure on top left with some facial carving apparent on left cheek, figure of 8-shaped mouth, hands on abdomen and lower body with male appendage and turned in legs and a carved 'Weku' figure standing below, the top figure on the right hand side is partially rotted, but hands are on the stomach and legs turned inwards, with similar 'Weku' figure below. There are 4 rows of beaded carving across the centre and sides of the base, and the lower figures have spiral carving on the legs. Partially fragile and will need restoration to stabilize.
