Max Schubert A.M. (1915-1994) / Lionel Coventry (1906-1986), a 1954 caricature of Max Schubert, winemaker and creator of Penfold's Grange Hermitage; drawn by Lionel Coventry, one of Australia's finest caricature artists. Max Schubert was to create a wine that won 50 Gold Medals, more awards than any other Australian wine. For his contribution he was awarded the Order of Australia and named 'Man of the Year 1988' by the British wine publication, Decanter. Lionel Coventry was, at the time of his death, responsible for 225,000 pieces of art in a 60 year career, which included caricatures, cartoons and newspaper comic strips.
