Description:
(i) An Egyptian Lid of a Canopic Jar Depicting the Deity Qebehsenuef Third Intermediate Period, Circa 1069 - 747 BC Carved Stone Height 15 cm Diameter 15 cm. Note Stone vessels, used for the burial of the viscera removed during mummification, are termed 'canopic' jars. Specific elements of the viscera were placed under the protection of four anthropomorphic deities known as the 'Sons of Horus'. Each of the four Gods was associated with a particular canopic jar and its contents, the lids of those jars being fashioned in the forms of the heads of each of the four gods. The falcon- headed Qebehsenuef protected the intestines. (ii) An Egyptian Plate Incised Decoration of a Lotus Ptolemaic Period, Circa 332 - 30 BC Carved Stone Height 3.6 cm. Diameter 23.1 cm.
