Description:
World War I postcards, Australian 6th Light Horse Regiment collection of unused mainly RP types depicting Australia's presence in the Middle East/Egypt. Aside from the usual topographical types (Pyramids, sphinx etc), noted a group portrait taken in 1915 of sick and injured Australian soldiers gathered at the steps of a hospital in Helouan Egypt. One of the soldiers is Pte Walter Moll, 6th LHR 7th Reinforcement who would later be joined by his Brothers Henry and Louis, as part of 34th Reinforcement (see next lot). Other photos show Light Horse units in Amman, Jericho, Jerusalem, Jordan, Telatat-Ed-Dum; snapshots of Turkish prisoners, servicemen swimming at the beach etc. The 6th Light Horse Regiment was raised in NSW in Sept.1914. It was one of 3 regiments of the 2nd Light Horse Brigade. The regiment sailed from Sydney 21st de and arrived in Egypt 1st Feb.1915. It fought many battles at Gallipoli and Palestine, eventually sailing to Australia and arriving 3rd Aug.1919, a great record. (c.60)
