A pair of 19th century silver plate mounted emu eggs, maker's mark J. Holt Melbourne 1879, each egg of ovoid form with a stippled ground surmounted respectively by an emu and kangaroo finial raised on a naturalistically cast support with applied wheat sheaves and leafs above a shaped foot each inscribed J. Holt Melbourne 1879 to the underside. Note: James Holt was employed by the Melbourne gold and silversmiths Kilpatrick & Co.
