1955 Austin Healey BN2 Roadster. Chassis no: CNBN2228270. Engine no: EN1B228270M. Registration no: AH 1932. Donald Healey's stylish Austin-Healey 100 caused a sensation when it debuted at the 1952 London motor show. Intended as a low-cost high-performance sports car and aimed at the US market, it set the bench mark for cars in its class, the Austin Healey 100 sourced its major components from the Austin Atlantic saloon. Low-revving and torque, the latter's 2,660cc four cylinder engine produced a respectable 90hp, and when installed in the lighter and more streamlined Healey the result was a genuine 100mph-plus car capable of reaching 60mph in under 11 seconds, circa 10,000 BN1 units were produced before the BN2 was released in October of 1955 and a total of 3,924 units were manufactured before production of the 100/6 stopped in 1956, the BN2 had a simple box frame chassis and was basically the same as the BN1. Two major upgrades made the BN2 more desirable than the BN1, namely larger drum brakes and a four speed box with overdrive as standard. What the BN2 kept most importantly were the stunning looks of the BN1. Delivered new in Canada, it is not known the exact date the car was brought into Australia. Purchased as a project some five years ago from Adelaide the car was taken to Mildura, Victoria, where a total ground-up, no expense spared restoration was embarked upon. Due to the ill health of the owner at the time the restoration took some five years to complete, still an impressive achievement in our book, the car has seen little use since its total rebuild. Offered for sale with a photographic record of the restoration it is sure to provide its future owner hours of fun in one of the best looking cars ever built
