Mercedes Benz 190B saloon (LHD). Chassis no. 1210101001141. Engine no.12192010008154. Reg no. Unregistered, after Mercedes Benz recommenced production after World War II the basic mechanical components were of a pre-war design. In 1953 a new full-width body of unitary construction was introduced, available with two engine sizes a four cylinder of 1767 cc's and a six of 2195 cc's. By 1956 the four cylinder car had become known as the 190 models, with 1897 cc, petrol or diesel engines and a four speed gearbox with column gear-change, the interior of the 190 was also changed and the quality of the trim was discernibly better. Sold in huge numbers and often seen forming the large proportion of taxi ranks in Germany the gentle shape and sprightly performance ensured a huge sales success for Mercedes-Benz which they so desperately needed in the difficult post war years. Due to their popularity in the period they were produced it is rare to find a 190 with a low mileage and in good original condition, this example is an exception to the rule. Sold new to Constantino Leo Losada, the Consular for Spain who was residing in San Francisco this car was used sparingly and carefully during the early years of its life. A huge file of paperwork including handbooks, original delivery documents from Mercedes-Benz and all of the registration documents from San Francisco are offered with the car and confirm that it has a genuine 75,352kms from new. Sold to Lindsey fox for his superb Museum, the car remained there almost untouched aside from a much needed re-spray and was sold by Bonhams and Goodman in 2005. To find a way into affordable Mercedes-Benz ownership is rare but to find such an affordable car with such an interesting history is almost unheard of
