A fine Royal Doulton vase, and cover by George White of bell krater form with loop handles, finely painted depicting four females in diaphanous clothing listening to an old bearded man playing a lyre, the scene is set in a classical garden landscape with Greek columns, flowers and birds within gilt banded borders, the cover is decorated with repeated sepia bands centred by a vase shaped finial, the whole is raised on a pedestal base with a gilt border, signed factory stamp. Height 580 mm George White worked at Doulton & Co. In Burslem from 1885 - 1912 and was noted for his painting of figures in classical or literary scenes. His work was exhibited at world's Colombian Exhibition in Chicago 1893.
