1970 Ford Falcon GT.HO Phase II, The Five Times GT Nationals Concours Winning, Serial No: JG33KM 15237, Chassis no: GL2748C, Engine no: GL2748C, Sido no: 997193, Reg: unregistered. The incredible sight of Ford's Canadian born master-craftsman Alan Moffat muscling his Australian built V8 powered leviathan down the Conrod straight at break-neck speeds, tyres screeching as he bravely charges through the Dipper desperately trying to stay on the road on his way to that ever important and heroic goal - victory at Bathurst. These are some of the images conjured up by four simple letters - GT.HO. These four letters send the hearts of Australian Ford fans racing and it is easy to understand why. Born out of the desire to beat Holden and Chrysler in what were arguably the halcyon days of the Australian Touring Car Championship the Ford Falcon GT.HOs, be it Phase I, II or III, were little more than race cars on the road, built in small numbers to ensure that homologation rules were not breached. While the whole of the range of Ford Falcon GTs are desirable, it is the GT.HOs that stand out in a crowd and are therefore the most collectable today. The GT.HO Phase IIs started to roll off the production line in June 1970. They were powered by the latest version of the Cleveland 351 cu.in motor that, breathing through a 780cfm Holley carburetor, produced some 300bhp at 5,400rpm. Further improvements from its GT.HO predecessors could be found in amongst other areas, the transmission including a close ratio gearbox and a 9-inch 'Daytona' differential with a ratio of 3.50:1. The improvements boosted the already impressive performance of the GT range and with top speeds of around 217kph (135mph) and the ability to cover a standing start 1/4 mile in just over 14 seconds in standard road trim the GT.HO Phase II was a force to be reckoned with. Only 287 GT.HO Phase IIs were made by the Ford Motor Co. and only a small proportion of these survive to this day. It is interesting to note that the GT.HO Phase IIs were the only GT.HOs never to be defeated at Bathurst. The 1970 Ford Falcon GT.HO Phase II offered for sale here can be described simply as one of the finest examples of a GT.HO Falcon in the world. The car has won the award for 'best Original/un-restored' car at the GT nationals no fewer than five times in four different states! Competing against similar cars from all over Australia the car has not yet been bettered and has won awards at its spiritual home in Bathurst twice in 1995 and 2003. It has also seen victory at Brisbane in 1993, Ballarat in 2005 and in Perth earlier on this year. Records indicate that Serial Number 15237 was sold new by Metropolitan Motors in Brisbane to a Mr John Gaskin in 1970 painted in the desirable colour, Brambles Red (the same colour as Moffat's Bathurst winning Phase II). Remarkably the car remained with the Gaskin family in Queensland for the next 22 years. John Gaskin retained possession of it for four years before selling it to his brother Mark in 1974. Mark Gaskin remained the custodian until 1992 when he sold the car to Kim Brennan. Mr Brennan then kept the car for eight years, selling it to Scott Cook of Ballarat, Victoria in 2000. '15237' has been owned by the current vendor since 2003 in whose ownership it has won two of its five GT Nationals awards - Bathurst and Perth. Offered for sale with its original log books and a letter from Ford Australia confirming its identity, the full options list and specification are available on request. This car is a true testament to the dedication of all its owners who have not only kept the car original but have managed to preserve its condition so successfully during its 37 years on the road. Offered for sale for the first time on the open market this superb car represents an opportunity to acquire not just a GT.HO Phase II but one of an extremely superior standard that represents everything that an Australian Muscle car was meant to be
