Hughes played 70 Tests 1977-85, including 28 as Australian captain. Provenace: Gifted to the Prime Minister, Bob Hawke in September 1983, then by descent. Match-used by Hughes in his five Ashes Tests 1982-3, where he scored 62, 0 and 39*, 88, 66 and 48, 29 and 137 an aggregate of 469 runs at 78. On Sept. 25 1983 Hughes, David Hookes and Max Walker were part of a Tourism Australia promotion in Canberra with Paul Hogan. Hughes then went back to his native Wa where Hawke also celebrated Australia II's victory in the America's Cup on Sept. 27.
