A rare and superb 19th century mahogany floor standing striking domestic regulator, S. Anderson, Williamstown the fine arched case with carved detail over freestanding turned columns inset to the front corners on a base with recessed central panel, with well carved apron set immediately below the signed one-piece silvered Roman dial, with subsidiary seconds and blued steel hands, the movement with substantial plates united by four heavy turned pillars, maintaining power to the deadbeat escapement with rack strike on a large gong, with wheels of six crossings throughout, the mercury jar pendulum (now filled with shot) mounted from a cast iron bracket mounted on the backboard and reading against a silvered beat scale. Height 207 cm Note: Domestic regulators were devised to offer the best of both worlds to the keen horologist - the precision of a weight driven movement with deadbeat escapement and other refinements to offer the most accurate timekeeping together with a striking train to sound the hours throughout the house.
