Description:
18ct yellow gold, Antique 'Prince of Wales Feathers' presentation brooch with box. Consisting of hree ostrich feathers, each with a curl at top, crown across base with five rectangular rubover collets applied, and blue enamelled ribbons at base with the motto 'ICH DIEN'. Brooch measures 44.5 mm x 41.9 mm and 10.4 mm thick at top feather curl. Engraved on rear 'M FAILL FROM H.R.H. Prince of Wales'. 9ct gold hinged brooch pin and gold plated safety chain attached. In a fitted box signed "R&S Garrard & Co". The brooch is set with three rubover rubies, rectangular cushion cut, approximately 2.5 mm x 1.5 mm -1.8 mm in size, estimated to total 0.15cts, and two rubover set emeralds, approximately 2.8 mm x 1.7 mm in size, estimated to total 0.10. One is chipped. Finished weight of brooch is 19.3 grams. 2024 Gemmologist report. The brooch appears to be a genuine HRH Prince of Wales presentation. The Garrard's Haymarket address on the box indicates the brooch was made between 1843 when they became Crown Jewellers and 1911 when they moved to a new address. During most of this time the Prince of Wales was Edward VII.
