Description:
A grand piano by Grotrian Steinweg (of Braunchweig, Germany). Regarded as a maker of premium pianos. Serial number 19418. It is noted that the Steinweg family in New York Anglicised its name to 'Steinway' and in 1853 founded the firm, 'Steinway and Sons'. A search of serial numbers, dates this piano as from 1872/3. Having a black ebonised case, tapered legs upon brass castors, ivory keys and a slide out sheet music stand. Inlaid with brass above the keys, 'Grotrian, Steinweg nachf, Braunschweig'. This piano comes from the same source as the Steinway in our September sale and it is attested that the vendor preferred to play the subject piano, height (closed) 101. Cm, width 150 cm, depth 195 cm.
