Description:
A very rare Yaozhou celadon censer. Northern Song Dynasty, 11th-12th century. This exquisite Yaozhou celadon censer, dating from the Northern Song Dynasty (11th-12th century), exemplifies the refined ceramic craftsmanship of the period. The censer features a cylindrical cup mounted on a gracefully waisted stem, which extends from a wide, spreading pedestal foot. The design is crowned by a gently curved, wide-everted rim, elaborately carved with intricate floral scrolls that echo the natural motifs popular in Song Dynasty Art. A serene pale green glaze envelops the exterior, subtly overflowing onto the raised mouth rim, while the interior remains unglazed. A similar example of this is Yaozhou celadon censer, which was sold at a Christie's auction for HK$475,000, underscoring the significant historical and artistic value of such pieces. These censers are celebrated for their elegant form and delicate glaze, which exemplify the innovative and sophisticated ceramic techniques of the time. Height 7 cm diameter 10 cm
