Description:
An Imperial coral Red-Ground and gilt decorated Turquoise-Enamelled wall ornament, Biping. Qing Dynasty, Qianlong period, 18th century. The exterior of this bowl is glazed in coral red, decorated with gilt entwined lotus and kui dragon patterns, while the interior is glazed in turquoise glaze, showcasing typical motifs of the Qianlong period. A comparable piece can be found in the Robert Chang Collection's 'An exhibition of Important Chinese ceramics from the Robert Chang Collection,' item no. 114: a Qianlong iron red-ground vessel with gilt entwined lotus patterns(see img 4-7). The patterns on both pieces are similar, featuring the same exterior iron red and gilt decoration with an interior turquoise green glaze, which are characteristic of official kilns from the Qianlong period. Due to Qianlong's fondness for wall ornaments, many wall vases were produced for decoration, though decorated wall bowls are quite rare. Provenance: Haitange collection, Melbourne. Lot 3216, Christie's Hong Kong, 4 Jun 2024, approx length 21.5 cm, width 6 cm
