'Lover's Eye' miniature portrait brooch, 19th century, the rectangular ivory plaque containing a painting of an eye, beneath bevelled edge glass, withing a gold frame surrounded by seed pearls and turquoise beads, weight 3.2gm, measuring 2.3 x 1.8 cm., Literature Please see "Jewels on Queen" by Anne Schofield page 43. Eye portraits were popular in jewellery from the 18th century and were deliberately ambiguous love tokens, probably to keep the sitter's identity secret.
