Provenance: The Jeffrey swift collection of important Australian and international prints, Adelaide, born in Nantes in 1882, Barbier attended the studio of jean-Paul Laurens at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1908 to 1910. Barbier was illustrator par excellence. His books always published in precise limited editions, are the gems of the production of the period. His drawings were reproduced by pochoir or by colour wood-engraving, by such outstanding craftsmen as F.L Schemed and J. Sauce to whom Barbier entrusted his work, for only they could bring out the brilliance and virtuosity of the artist.
