Description:
A Cruciform decanter, English circa 1725, four rings on stem, a good example of one of the earliest forms of decanter. 24.5 cm high. The colourless glass serving bottle was considered a vast improvement over the previous opaque bottles, and an exciting development. These early bottles were made in two sizes and had no stoppers since wine was not stored in the bottle beyond dinner. Reference: Hollingworth. P44 18d
