Dutch silver pair cased verge pocket watch, c.1720, the movement signed 'Alexandre Deonna' (1682-1767), with white enamel dial and Roman numeral hour markers, a/f (minor damage to 6 o'clock position), within a silver case stamped to inner case back (possibly 'Jpb'), the outer case featuring a central hand painted enamel plaque depicting a finely dressed woman suspending a pocket watch from chain, within a border of silver repousse fruits, flowers, bows and arrows, a/f (missing push button clasp), case diameter 5.6 cm, suspended on a Dutch silver chain with single sword hallmarks, the dual strand chain with two barrel form bolt and split rings, terminating at a watch key and two seals, total silver weight approx. 80gm, total length on chain 41 cm published: "How the watch was worn, a fashion for 500 Years', by Genevieve Cummins, colour plate 34, page 20.
