Rare William III Joseph Windmills longcase clock, c.1695, London, the 12 inch (30.5 cm) square brass dial with black Roman numeral chapter ring signed 'Windmills, London', with matte textured center containing dual winding rings, subsidiary seconds dial to the 12 o'clock position and calendar aperture window to the 6 o'clock position, within four pierced neoclassical gilt brass spandrels with central mask motif, the architectural hood with stepped pediment containing a pierced sound fretwork design above four Roman style Tuscan columns, the lovely oak case veneered in walnut and decorated with neoclassical string and marquetry inlay with acanthus and foliage, urns of flowers and cornucopia, the elongated rectangular trunk door featuring a circular glazed lenticle, the whole above four bracket feet, height 250 cm, width 48.5 cm, depth 24.5 cm, includes pendulum, two weights and key note: Joseph Windmills (c.1640-1724) was regarded as one of the finest clockmakers in 17th century London. He was appointed assistant to the Clockmakers Company in 1691, Warden in 1699 and master in 1720.
