Nice French 18ct gold and ivory watch chatelaine, late 19th century, Japonisme influenced design, stamped to inner case back with horse head 18ct fineness mark, case maker 'Jm' within lozenge, the half hunter case with internal blank white enamel dial and electric blue hands, the case cover with incised and inked ivory Roman numeral dial, the case back finely decorated with a carved ivory roundel of a long tailed bird amongst reeds, case diameter 33 mm, suspended on an 18ct gold chatelaine with unmarked silver hook, the waist plaque of kidney form with a carved ivory bird with wings outstretched, above a central circular roundel of a stork amongst reeds, each framed in 18ct yellow gold and united via chain links, total weight 60.46gm, length 11.5 cm, width 4.5 cm, watch movement currently winding and running published: "How the watch was worn, a fashion for 500 Years', by Genevieve Cummins, colour plate 231 and 232, page 91.
