An opaque-twist Beilby enamelled wine, English circa 1760, Round funnel bowl, double series opaque twist stem comprising two seven ply tapes around four ply spiral cable stem, and a conical foot, the bowl with Swags of leaves and flowers in white enamel by one of the Beilbys, probably Mary. Height 155 mm, Foot/Stem/Bowl 65/13/52 mm. Provenance: Mary Beilby was an 18th-century English glass enameller, part of the renowned Beilby family, known for their exceptional craftsmanship in enamel decoration on glass. Working in Newcastle upon Tyne, she collaborated with her brother William Beilby to create intricately decorated glassware, often featuring delicate floral designs, heraldic symbols, and picturesque scenes. Their work became highly sought after for its precision and beauty, and Mary's contributions were essential in establishing the Beilby family's legacy in the decorative arts.
