A large Saxon wine goblet, Princess Anne of Orange, Saxony circa 1750, thistle bowl with fluting around the base, inverted baluster with large tear stem, and a high conical, folded foot, engraved with excellent Dutch armorial wheel engraving showing the royal coat of arms of Princess Anne (without the lion and unicorn or motto) but with flower sprays each side, on reverse in Latin and Dutch: 'Vivat Anna Princes in Van Oranien', Long Live Princess Anna of Orange. 19 cm high. Provenance: An important early Royal Commemorative. Chalk metal. Princess Anne (1709-1759), second child and first daughter to George III, was the wife of William IV of Organge, and Regent of The Netherlands 1751-1759. Barrie Cathcart, who purchased them from a client in Launceston. Client said that they had been originally brought out from Holland by his great(?) grand parents.
