Description:
A heavy baluster vase with rare mushroom knop, English circa 1710, conical thistle form bowl, solid base bowl, teared mushroom knop with basal ball knop stem, and a conical folded foot. 16 cm high. The mushroom knop is rare to find in heavy baluster goblets. According to E Barrington Haynes only the ovoid knop is rarer. This glass was probably made between 1710 and 1715 and represents the pinnacle of the heavy baluster period style… after the earlier, plainer period but before the decline to lighter styles when workmanship became somewhat inferior. An important and attractive glass. Reference: Bickerton 102
