A sterling silver 2nd Maori Wars presentation chalice decorated with embossed and repousse floral swags linked to three classical masks and with beading to the stem and foot. Presentation engraved 'To John Chandler from Capt Francis W Sullivan Rn.Cb in Remembrance of His Valuable Services on the river Waikato During, the Operations of 1863 and 1864'. John Chandler was a river trader who reputedly took the troops up river as he knew the locations of Maori warriors in hiding. He later gave away the cup as he ‘Feared it'.
