Heavy iron hammer head 'Ovalled' leg irons, with the Government broad arrow mark on two faces; and a pair of rivet leg irons as used by convicts working in leg irons in road and quarry gangs, hammered to an 'Oval' shape thus allowing the convict to slip them over his heals and remove them. Approx 4.5kg in weight with a heavy hammer like this, a few blows were all that was required to 'Oval' the leg irons and abscond
