A good 18th century hei tiki. A good example of a type I form carved in bright kawakawa variety stone with pale chatoyant and dark inclusions. The head is tilted to the left with facial features displaying widely recessed eye rings, a nasal ridge that extends to the top of the head and a heart shaped mouth with tongue and teeth. The body is thick and muscular with well defined shoulders and elbows. Features are worn from use and age but still evident. Two concealed stone drilled suspension holes to the back of the head, one broken out. Some natural scarring to the back of the head. Height 10 cm.
