A Chinese blue and white 'Zhong Kui' Rolwagen vase, possibly transitional period, circa 1640 the cylindrical sleeve vase with a gently waisted neck and everted rim, tapering slightly towards the unglazed foot, finely painted in inky tones of blue with the vanquisher of ghosts and demons, Zhong Kui, depicted mounted on a deer with a full beard, bulging eyes and a wrathful expression, with an emaciated subdued demon handing over a sword, in a rocky landscape with banana tree, the scene witnessed by an auspicious bat, below a full moon sky engulfed in vaporous cloud swirls.
