Pietro Bazzanti (Italian, 1825-1895), marble sculpture of Venus de' Medici, lifesize, after the 1st century BC marble copy of the lost Greek bronze original of Aphrodite, currently housed in the Tribuna of the Uffizi gallery, Florence, Italy, signed towards base 'P.Bazzanti/Florence/1883,' depicting the goddess Venus emerging from the sea beside a portrayal of a putto atop a dolphin at her feet, a/f (losses to both arms), height 158 cm note: the firm Pietro Bazzanti and Son specialised similar: Christies, property from a south American collection, 15/07/20, lot 266. In producing marble, alabaster and mosaics for tourists of discerning taste who were looking to acquire Museum quality reproductions of the masterpieces observed in their travels.
