A leather lash, as used at point Puer for punishment of the boys,; accompanied by interesting supporting document, 'Point Puer juvenile Punishment record, 11 August 1838', the record describes punishment of 39 individuals, examples of offences including being in possession of a privately made pair of braces, possession of tobacco, bread concealed in bedding etc, with punishments of up to three days solitary confinement on bread and water, ten to thirteen stripes on the breech (these would have been administered by the leather lash shown with the boy bent over the whipping stool) (2)
