A Chinese archaic bronze vessel You, possibly late Western Zhou Dynasty, circa 8th century B.C. The vessel is with a circular mouth, constricted neck, sloping shoulders leading to a rounded body, and a circular foot at the base. The mouth is capped with a button lid decorated with intricate human face motifs, while the lid itself features a concentric arrangement of linear patterns reminiscent of unfolding flowers, radiating gracefully outward from the central button. The neck is encircled by a band of swirling cloud and thunder motifs, prominently displaying a unique beast face under the protection of a pair of phoenixes, with additional protruding animal heads on either side that originally served as handles, contributing to its ancient and mysterious aura. The protruding belly surface is meticulously carved with vertical ridges that echo the design on the lid, creating a cohesive and harmonious aesthetic.
