A painted pottery figure of a Huren, Tang Dynasty (618-907), the Tang dynasty, which arose in 7th century China, wielded significant influence over its neighbouring countries, earning it the title of the great Tang Empire. This work is a pottery figurine of a Hu person, which broadly refers to foreign ethnic groups in Chinese Art, specifically those from Western regions. This figure May represent a merchant who travelled back and forth along the silk Road. Its deeply carved features, including a full beard, boots, and a coat, clearly distinguish it as non-Han Chinese in an exotic depiction. The figure still retains some of its original colouration applied over a white slip. The figurine's posture—holding something with its both hands—conveys the long journey from the West and the merchant's weariness, 18 cm high
