Description:
A rare Heirloom Chayang 'Temoku' bowl, Song Dynasty, 13th century, features deep, rounded sides, covered with a thick, lustrous black glaze and it pools above the foot, revealing the body beneath, which is fired to a black color. The mouth rim is encircled by a metal band. From the Kaju-Ji collection, located in the Yamashina valley, East of Kyoto, Kaju-ji temple was founded in 900 by emperor Daigo. With Japanese wood box,, diameter 12.6 cm, height 7 cm. Provenance: The Kaju-Ji collection, Kyoto. Private collection, Melbourne.
