A collection of whaling equipment to include: A Greener harpoon gun, 1849, with markings 'W Greener Maker Birmingham 1849 No 2', bore size 3.3 cm, with walnut stock, damascus twist barrel, raised ventilated rib with one brass support in the centre, raised sighting rib above the barrel at the breech end, no rear sight, the barrel is secured to the stock by steel square headed bolt under the breech, single centre hammer with provision for locking pin to act as a safety catch, twin percussion musket size nipples, brass cover plate with steel swivel lock at rear, hinged at the front to lift upwards and lanyard trigger release In 1837 the famous English gun maker William Greener of Birmingham was approached to make a more practical version of a swivel mounted harpoon gun
