A rare Maori inspired figurative chess set, the rook pieces reference the 1940 Centennial tower constructed in the Art Deco style, suggesting this piece was made some time after the 1940s. Possibly made by Kia ora souvenirs made a large number of novelties commemorating this exhibition. A skittle set manufactured by Christchurch toy Company was made from a similar plastic material in the 1940s. Comes with a non official vintage chessboard.
