A cased Chinese carved and tinted ivory chess set, late Qing, early 20th century, the complete set comprising twelve natural-coloured pieces and twelve red-stained, finely carved and pierced depicting traditional Chinese emperor, dignitary figures, figures on horseback and guards with swords serving as pawns, in the original blue silk lined hinged timber case with gilt-lacquered decorative sides and chessboard.
